Our current sense is that “pulp” refers to the liquidy goo that forms pages in a paperback. The designation “pulp fiction” refers to the mass production of cheap books.
As a genre, “pulp” usually covers the spectacular: that which is bloody, gory, sexy, obscene, or crude.
That’s all we got and we’re sticking to it, until we’re told something better.
